our story
In the early 2000s the benefactors of Big Toe Foundation (BTF) were holidaying on Great Barrier Island with friends. Conversation turned to the problems that retreat centres available to Not For Profit organisations had in remaining operationally viable.
Many were sitting on capital assets that were deteriorating with few funds available to adequately maintain, let alone refurbish them. As a consequence, the standard of facilities available were progressively declining and the environment offered to users was suffering. This negatively impacted all involved and in many instances facilities had to close.
This discussion sowed a seed and a dream was born.... To establish a high quality facility that is commercially sustainable and available to Not For Profit organisations to use at a reasonable cost.
Through our relationship with Flaxmill, BTF can offer reduced rates on the accommodation and venue facilities to approved charities, churches and Not For Profit groups, at certain times of the year. View Rates >>
Framework of the BTF programme…
- Not for Profit organisations registered and approved under the BTF programme have access to highly reduced rates at Flaxmill for stays post-Easter to mid-December each year (excluding public holiday and popular event weekends).
- Approval for registration is given at the sole and absolute discretion of the Trustees of BTF.
- An organisation remains approved until either BTF, or the organisation, (for any reason) advises in writing that they are withdrawing from the arrangement.
- The BTF rates include a reduction of 50% - 75% of the equivalent standard rack rate, depending on the length of stay.
- Minimum stay of 2 nights, up to a maximum of 14 consecutive nights.
- Rates can be used for small getaways for refreshing individuals/couples, meetings or planning sessions, through to larger retreats and conferences.
- Staff and team members of registered organisations are also able to access the BTF accommodation rates for personal stays under the same framework.
- All bookings must be made (or approved) by a nominated Authorised Contact for the organisation. All bookings are subject to availability and Flaxmill's Terms & Conditions.
- Catering, travel or other additional services (if applicable) are not included.
- Refer to the Rates section for full details and booking terms.
